Speech and Science Writer

Synergy Enterprises, Inc., a minority- and woman-owned government contractor, is seeking a Speech and Science Writer to work in its Silver Spring, MD, headquarters and a client site in Bethesda. The Speech and Science Writer will write speeches and develop associated presentation materials for high-profile representatives of a federal biomedical organization. The Speech and Science Writer will consult with physicians, biomedical researchers, and other science writers and communications personnel to prepare content for federal officials attending biomedical conferences, academic symposia, public policy meetings, and other professional gatherings. The Speech and Science Writer will also prepare background materials for federal biomedical officials being interviewed by journalists and others for television, radio, print, internet, and other media. The Speech and Science Writer will also perform other science writing, editing, and communications tasks as directed by the Project Manager. Professional experience as a speech writer and science communicator is required. Familiarity with federal health agencies and PowerPoint is a plus. The Speech and Science Writer will report to the Project Manager.



  • Write speeches and prepare related materials (e.g., PowerPoint) for federal health officials presenting to biomedical, scientific, professional, and general audiences.
  • Interact professionally with biomedical clinicians, researchers, and policymakers with an intermediate level of scientific fluency.
  • Research biomedical topics from a variety of sources, including scientific journals, and synthesize information into professional speeches and presentations.
  • Perform other science writing and editing tasks for newsletters, websites, federal reports, and other publications.

  • Master’s Degree in related field; 10+ years of experience.
  • Outstanding speech writing skills.
  • Ability to support multiple projects from concept to completion, work independently, and adhere to tight deadlines.
  • High proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Word and PowerPoint.
  • Ability to work and problem solve in a high-stress, time-sensitive environment.
