As part of National Recovery Month, Synergy supported production of the Road to Recovery—a series of public service announcements (PSAs) and aired radio and television episodes. Episodes are presented in a talk-show, roundtable format that includes panels of nationwide experts from the behavioral health field and aim to increase knowledge and understanding of mental and/or substance use disorders. Synergy provided logistical and communications support for this series of six 1-hour shows, featuring panels of nationwide experts and voices of individuals in recovery, and two 30-minute “bookend” shows (Kick-off and Wrap).
Based on SAMHSA priorities and input from the Recovery Month Planning Partners, Synergy conducted research and developed the Topic Abstract and Discussion Guides with key questions to provide direction for each Road to Recovery episode. We used a research-based process to develop Discussion Guides with four panel areas, making sure to incorporate various perspectives. In parallel to the Discussion Guide development, Synergy also developed two sets of Spotlight Questions and talking points for each show for SAMHSA dignitaries to discuss Agency priorities and broader Federal policy issues. For each show, our team also identified panelists who represented various key constituent groups, ensured that every show had four panelists (one in recovery), and identified backup panelists in case of a last-minute cancellation.
Synergy managed logistical support for filming all Road to Recovery shows, National Recovery Month events for the two “bookend” shows, six case studies, and two sessions with SAMHSA dignitaries. Our team also conducted postproduction and editing of all eight shows, and after SAMHSA review and approval, completed final editing, transcription, close captioning, and 508-compliance for all shows.
