Synergy Enterprises, Inc. Project Is Centerpiece of Vice President’s School Safety Address
June 18, 2013 - Synergy Enterprises, Inc. (SEI) Project Director Bronwyn Roberts, Esq., along with members of the Office of Safe and Healthy Students of the U.S. Department of Education, joined Vice President Joseph Biden on June 18 at the White House, where the Vice President announced comprehensive federal efforts to enhance safety in K-12 schools and institutes of higher education.
At the White House briefing, the Vice President introduced guidance documents that will be a central component of the Readiness and Emergency Management for Schools (REMS) technical assistance (TA) center. SEI is proud to be the contractor for REMS and its TA center. SEI produced the guidance documents as part of the REMS TA project. The Vice President presented copies of the emergency management planning guides to Newtown, Connecticut, parents as well as members of Congress and public safety officials from around the country. In the aftermath of the violent tragedies and natural disasters that have touched educational institutions in recent years, emergency management has become a crucial issue for local and federal policy makers. Just 5 days after the December 14, 2012, Sandy Hook Elementary shooting, President Barack Obama announced the administration’s “Now Is the Time” plan to make our schools safer. As a part of that plan, the REMS TA center helped produce the Guide for Developing High-Quality School Emergency Operations Plans and the Guide for Developing High-Quality Emergency Operations Plans for Institutions of Higher Education. The documents were developed through a multi-agency effort that included the U.S. Departments of Education, Health and Human Services, Homeland Security, and Justice; the Federal Bureau of Investigation; and the Federal Emergency Management Agency.
