21st Century Community Learning Centers (21st CCLC) Training and Technical Assistance

Overview

In August 2023, Synergy was awarded the National Technical Assistance Center (NTAC) Cooperative Agreement issued by the U.S. Department of Education's (ED) Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (OESE) under the 21st Century Community Learning Centers Program. NTAC will provide technical assistance (TA) and training to 21st CCLC program State Educational Agencies (SEAs) and their subgrantees, which provide out-of-school-time (OST) academic enrichment opportunities to underserved populations. Synergy managed the previous iteration of the program, developing and maintaining the You for Youth (Y4Y) TA Portal. As part of NTAC, Synergy is continuing to maintain the portal as Y4Yarchives.org. The portal offers free online professional learning and resources for OST site coordinators and program directors. The portal is designed to support the important work that happens in an OST setting and embraces positive youth development and resilience practices to create environments that nurture the healthy development of the whole child—and the whole staff. It contains more than 20 interactive courses, several Click & Go microlearning modules, and more than 400 resources, as well as webinar archives, career development resources for OST practitioners, and a blog. In addition to the portal, we provide virtual and on-site targeted TA, produce quarterly webinars, present at conferences, create and curate all resources, and ensure that the portal meets all security requirements.

Impact

Since 2015, Synergy has provided more than 160 virtual trainings and 170 in-person trainings, presented at more than 40 conferences, and hosted 32 webinars. The Y4Y Portal receives more than 11,000 visits per month, and our online course completion rate is approximately 30 percent. Our newsletter, The Y4Y Insider, has more than 20,000 subscribers. Additionally, the U.S. Department of Education leadership has touted Y4Y’s resources and TA at national conferences, and we receive much positive feedback about Y4Y’s TA from state education agency staff.
