Senior Statistician

Synergy Enterprises, Inc., a minority and woman-owned government contractor located in North Bethesda, MD, currently has an opportunity for a full-time employee as a Senior Statistician. The Senior Statistician will work closely with both evaluation and technical staff, and provide support in a variety of areas. Such areas may include providing technical assistance, developing publications, conducting initial and ongoing needs assessments, and analyzing and reporting data.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Serve as expert consultant regarding content and methods to both internal and external (client) users.
  • Innovate statistical methods or adapt standard statistical methods, as needed.
  • Communicate effectively with both internal and external clients to explain methods,
  • Interpret results and create effective tabular and graphical displays.
  • Give talks on statistical methods for both internal and external audiences.
  • Collaborate with Project Directors/Managers/Research Associates to achieve study objectives, deliver results on time, and ensure the quality of deliverables.
  • Interact with knowledge experts to specify statistical models.
  • Create specifications for building analytic data files.
  • Able to analyze a variety of data with minimal instruction
  • Ensure data and reporting meet high standards including various Federal guidelines.
  • Able to present data visually in a variety of methods including maps, interactive tables and charts, and other online formats.
  • Strictly follow data security protocols.



  • Requires 10+ years of experience in statistical consulting and research design.
  • Able to obtain a security clearance.
  • Ability to solve problems using analytical skills and choose appropriate statistical methods to meet study objectives.
  • Experience in designing and explaining analyses for a non-technical client.
  • Experience in a broad array of statistical methods and survey design and methodology used in education, evaluation and health services research.
    • Requires experience with basic and advanced statistical methods, including hypothesis testing, confidence intervals, sample size determination, Bayesian statistics, analysis of variance and regression modeling, including generalized linear models, logistic regression, Poisson regression, hierarchical regression, time series analysis and data mining.
  • Ability to program in SAS, SPSS, SUDAAN, R and MATLAB. Familiarity with Qualtrics, ArcGIS and QGIS a plus.
  • Ability to multi-task without sacrificing quality or deadlines on individual projects.
  • Excellent communication skills: able to discuss technical issues with technical and non-technical audiences and work in a multi-disciplinary environment.
  • PhD in statistics or quantitative branch of social sciences.

Other job requirements:

  • The position requires that individuals be available to work as necessary throughout the standard workweek and often on weekends as well.

  • Work environment: Employees are not substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions.  The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
