Senior Instructional Designer

Job Summary: Synergy Enterprises, Inc., a minority, and woman-owned government contractor located in North Bethesda, MD, currently has an opportunity for a Senior Instructional Designer (SID). The selected candidate will provide support for the communications team as a SID to develop instructional materials for online training courses for our adult learners. The successful candidate will demonstrate an understanding of instructional design models and adult learning theory, be technically sound, and consider possible constraints such as resources and capabilities given the environment. The SID will collaborate with graphic designers, animators, project managers, technical directors and Subject Matter Experts (SMEs). To be considered for this opportunity candidates must have significant and demonstrable experience with adult learning principles, e-learning module development, and online software and development tools.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Designs and develops instructional materials including online/ e-learning courses, videos, and tools for training adult professionals.
  • Works with clients and project staff to develop a systematic plan of instruction to address the needs of learners.
  • Uses a range of technology tools to develop the delivery system.
  • Works closely with project staff, SMEs and stakeholders to translate the performance requirements and skill gaps into the specific learning objectives that must be achieved through training.
  • Requires proficiency in technology and programs needed to develop online and e-learning instructional materials to meet program goals.
  • Responsible for training to familiarize users with instructional technologies.
  • Makes presentations to project staff/ clients concerning different phases of a project.
  • Remain current with changes and developments in learning methodology/technology to continuously improve/update training programs and materials.

Qualifications:

  • Master’s Degree in Education, Instructional Design, or related subject with 5+ years of related ISD experience.
  • Minimum of five years of instructional design and/or technical writing experience.
  • Knowledge of andragogy, adult learning theories/ principles, models, and characteristics.
  • Must have knowledge and experience with an instructional design model i.e. ADDIE, SAM, Kemp, Merrill’s Principles of Instruction, etc.)
  • Must have knowledge and experience in e-learning software and development tools (i.e. Articulate Storyline 360, Adobe Captivate), video integration platforms (i.e. Adobe Premiere Pro, Vyond, etc.), graphics (i.e. Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, Express, etc.), and learning management systems (i.e. Moodle, etc.).
  • Excellent communication and project management skills.
  • Must be able to prioritize, manage and complete multiple tasks within strict deadlines.
  • Content expertise in one or more of the following areas a plus: grants management, government contracting, 21st Century Community Learning Centers, creating and providing professional development for educators, including out-of-school time professionals.

Other job requirements:

  • This position requires that individuals be available to work as necessary throughout the standard workweek and potentially some weekends.
  • The position may require the ability to travel, including overnight (approximately 20% of time, depending upon need).
